Charterly ("we," "us," or "the Platform") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. This policy applies to all users of the Platform, including Captains and Anglers.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Captain accounts: Name, email address, phone number, business name, and Stripe account information for payment processing
  • Angler accounts: Name, email address, and phone number
  • Booking details: Trip dates, trip type, group size, special requests, and any messages exchanged through the Platform

Information collected automatically

  • Device information (browser type, operating system)
  • Usage data (pages visited, features used, time spent)
  • IP address and approximate location
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6)

Payment information

Payment card numbers and sensitive financial data are processed directly by Stripe and are never stored on Charterly's servers. We receive only a limited set of payment metadata (such as last four digits and transaction status) from Stripe for record-keeping purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and improve the Platform
  • To process bookings and payments
  • To connect Anglers with Captains for booked trips (sharing relevant contact details)
  • To send transactional emails (booking confirmations, reminders, receipts)
  • To provide customer support
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • To comply with legal obligations

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • Between Captains and Anglers: When a booking is made, we share relevant contact and trip details between the Captain and the Angler so the trip can be fulfilled.
  • Stripe: We share information with Stripe as necessary to process payments, manage payouts, and comply with financial regulations.
  • Service providers: We may share information with trusted third-party services that help us operate the Platform (e.g., email delivery, analytics), subject to confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Charterly, our users, or the public.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Booking records and transaction data are retained for seven (7) years to comply with tax and financial reporting requirements. If you close your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Cookies & Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how the Platform is used. We use privacy-friendly analytics to measure page views and feature usage. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some Platform features may not work properly without them.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Delete your personal information (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Opt out of non-essential communications
  • Export your data in a portable format

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, request deletion of your information, and opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a request, email us at support@charterly.com.

9. Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's Privacy

Charterly is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or through the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
